A compelling Provincetown maritime scene depicting fishermen working near harbor vessels beneath a sky filled with circling gulls.
Lindenmuth was a central figure in the Provincetown art colony, studying under Robert Henri and becoming one of the founders of the Provincetown Art Association. His work frequently explored the fishing communities and working waterfronts of Cape Cod, making maritime subjects among the most desirable themes in his oeuvre.
The composition demonstrates Lindenmuth’s characteristic approach:
• Bold silhouetted figures in the foreground
• Expressive impasto brushwork
• Strong diagonal lines from poles and masts
• Atmospheric coastal light
The painting is signed lower left and titled on the reverse.
Works by Lindenmuth appear regularly in American art auctions and remain sought after by collectors of Provincetown and Cape Cod art colony painters.
